Mushroom Bay

Mushroom Bay

Mushroom Bay, locally known as Cala Roja, is located on Mallorca’s northwest coast and stands out for the reddish tone of the cliffs surrounding it, creating a striking contrast with the transparency of the water. Without a conventional beach, the cove opens as a small rocky refuge with clean waters and a sandy seabed where visibility is exceptional. At the centre of the bay, a mushroom-shaped rock formation gives the place its name and acts as both a visual and maritime focal point.

The experience at Mushroom Bay is calm and intimate, ideal for anchoring and enjoying swimming or snorkelling in a relatively undiscovered setting. The richness of marine life and the clarity of the water make it an especially attractive place to explore without haste. A short walk inland from the shore leads to the remains of an old Victorian hydroelectric power station beside a small freshwater waterfall, adding an unexpected contrast and a more exploratory dimension to the stop. It is an enclave that brings variety and character to any route along the northern coastline.
